Bruce Weber To Be Next Cats Coach

Kansas State has hired Bruce Weber to be its next men’s basketball coach, Weber told’s Andy Katz Saturday.

Weber, who was fired March 9 after nine seasons at Illinois, is replacing Frank Martin, who left this week to become coach at South Carolina.

Kansas State has scheduled a 4 p.m. ET news conference.

Weber’s deal with the Wildcats is for five years; financial terms were not disclosed.

Weber led the Illini to the 2005 NCAA title game, where they lost to North Carolina. He finished 210-101 at Illinois, trailing only Lou Henson and Harry Combes in wins at the school.

However, his teams were just 55-66 in the Big Ten the past six seasons, including 6-12 this season. The Illini closed the season 2-12.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Could Doug Gottlieb Be The Next K-State Coach?

With Frank leaving for South Carolina (which seems dumb to me) the search for the next K-State mens basketball coach is on. One late entry in the last few days is ESPN personality Doug Gottlieb. Gottlieb was a high school all american and played at Oklahoma State (after a brief stint at Notre Dame). Doug doesn’t have any coaching experience although being a point guard I’m sure he has played the role of coach on the floor over the years. His father Bob Gottlieb was a coach (including two years at K-state as an assistant to Jack Hartman) and still runs a skills academy. His brother Gregg is an assistant at Cal.

Doug is interested in the job and thinks K-State is a great place that you can win at. He was on the 810 earlier (listen to the 26 minute interview here) where he talks about how he would go about things.

There is a rally tomorrow (saturday the 31st) in front of the Ernie Barrett statue at Bramladge aka the Octagon of Doom at 1pm to support the Gottlieb hiring and also and people are using the hashtag #Gottlieb4KSU on their tweets that want him to come here. Currie is actually in New Orleans for the final four but the rally is to let the administration know who you support for the next coach.

And a quick note about this tumblr i haven’t been updating a ton but in the process of breaking it away from my entertaining things tumblr and will prob have to shut this one down and then make a new one but I’m in that process and once thats done ill update more. So keep an eye out for that.

RIP FattyFatFat

I haven’t updated Go K-State in a while I plan to get back to it but I wanted to take a second to mention the passing of K-State super fan FattyFatFat aka Fatty4KSU. He reached a lot on K-State / Big 12 message boards and with his youtube videos. I didn’t know him personally but certainly enjoyed what he brought to the community. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

Watch K-State on ESPN2 Tonight

Since K-State won the first two games of the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii they are in the championship game tonight on ESPN2 (and They will play Long Beach State. Long Beach State’s record is only 7-5 but they have already played 5 top 25 ranked teams. They won two (Pitt and Xavier) and lost the others (Louisville, KU, and UNC).

I actually missed the Cats first two games of the Diamond Head Classic (been super busy over the past week) but freshman guard Angel Rodriquez was the leading scorer in both games. The game will be on at 9:30 ET on ESPN2 tonight. Also a reminder this game and all the rest of the regular season Wildcat games will also air on ESPN3 / Watch ESPN so something to keep in mind if you want to follow the Cats.

K-State Vs Arkansas In The Cotton Bowl

It was announced last night that K-State will play Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl. It’s now held at Cowboys Stadium aka “Jerry World”. It will air on Fox on January 6th and its the only game on that night so it should be seen by a lot of people. In the latest BCS poll K-State is #8 and Arkansas are #6. K-State had a decent chance of getting a BCS bowl but the Sugar Bowl picked Virginia Tech instead. Like the Cats the Razorbacks finished the year 10-2. With their two losses being to #1 LSU and #2 Alabama. We had one common opponent in Texas A&M they beat them 42-38 and of course we won in the 4 overtime thriller 53-50. Ticket info is below.

K-State’s 2012 AT&T Cotton Bowl allotment of 12,500 tickets has been sold out through pre-orders. Ticket locations for pre-orders will be assigned in order of the K-State Athletics Priority Point System and follow post-season priority limits. Ticket shipments are expected to be mailed by priority delivery at least two weeks prior to the game. Fans who did not pre-order tickets who wish to attend the Cotton Bowl should purchase tickets through the official ticket exchange on the AT&T Cotton Bowl website at

A student ticket allotment of 2,500 tickets is available with 500 reserved seats priced at $125 each and 2,000 standing room end-zone Spirit Passes at $50 each. These tickets will be available to current ICAT pass-holders beginning Wednesday, December 7 at 8:30 a.m. at the K-State Ticket Office located on the southwest corner of Bramlage Coliseum. In order to ensure fair access to tickets for K-State students and to maintain a students-only section, K-State Athletics consulted with the Student Governing Association to determine that students must bring their own student pass card and Wildcat ID and are limited to one ticket. Reserved ticket purchasers will be provided a voucher which, with a valid student ID, can be picked up at Cowboys Stadium on the day of the game. Any remaining reserved ticket vouchers will be made available to all K-State students on Thursday, December 8 at 8:30 a.m.

All unsold Spirit Passes will be made available to the public at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, December 12.

The K-State Alumni Association will also provide official travel packages to the bowl game. Visit the Alumni Association’s official bowl travel page - - for travel package information.
