Big 12 Have A Good Weekend / Wildcat Recap
After week 1 all Big 12 teams won and that trend almost continued in week 2 only Missouri have lost. Although to be fair a lot of Big 12 teams had the week off. Oklahoma State killed Arizona 37 to 14 on thursday night. Missouri lost in overtime to Arizona State on friday night. The saturday games were all close. Iowa State surprised their in state rival Iowa by wining in triple overtime 44 to 41, Texas beat BYU 17 to 16 and Kansas squeaked by Northern Illinois 45 to 42.
I never posted a recap of the Wildcats win in game 1 vs Eastern Kentucky. It was so ugly I didn’t really want to think about it ever again. K-State was lucky they won, they scored a touchdown late in the game to win 10-7. K-State has 5 turnovers and couldn’t do much on offense. The defense looked improved and made up for a lot of mistakes the offense made. They did mention on the broadcast that the regular Eastern Kentucky QB was out with a broken hand and it was Eastern Kentucky and not a Big 12 team but the defense did step up when it needed to and they rarely did that last season.
It was kind of like last years UCF game where we didn’t deserve to win but found a way to. They started the game rotating running back between Angelo Pease, Bryce Brown and John Hubert. Hubert ended up having the best game he finished with 91 yards on 17 carries and as the game went on he got the bulk of the work. He had three runs over 10 yards including a 20 yard one. According to Coach Snyder Hubert will most likely be the starter for the next game.
It looks like we are in for another year of shitty quarterback play. Collin Klein isn’t much of a passer which is a shame because we actually have a good group of wide receivers lead by Broderick Smith and Chris Harper. Speaking of receivers I never got around to mentioning in the offseason we have another Lockett at K-State. Tyler Lockett is son of Kevin Lockett who is K-State’s all time leading receiver and had a solid 7 year NFL career. Also Kevin’s brother Aaron is #4 in the K-State receiving record books. So having another Lockett is a good thing. There was some talk Tyler would redshirt this year but he was out there and caught a few passes, although he did have a fumble. He got a good cheer from the crowd when he made his first catch, hopefully it’s one of many.
I think I heard freshman QB Daniel Sams is redshirting this year so if Klein can’t do it that it falls to junior transfer Jessie Tuggle or Sammuel Lamur. Lamur is a senior and has never really been able to get into the game much so I’m guessing he is worse then Klein but I would like to see what Tuggle can do.
Next week for K-State is Kent State in Manhattan. Hopefully we get another full crowd but more then that hopefully K-State looks a lot better.
The biggest Big 12 game in week 3 is #1 OU vs #5 Florida State
